Mixed bag for Muir

Muir College bounced back from a first game defeat to win their final two matches of the Oakdale Rugby Festival.

They suffered a 7-15 loss to Brackenfell in their fist match before regrouping to beat Monument Park 7-3 and Knysna High 29-5.

Brackenfell opened the scoring when Muir failed to work on the inside leaving a gap in defence but that lead did not last long as inside center Sicelo Tole crossed the line after some individual brilliance. Hooker, Senkosi Ncapyi kicked the conversion putting the Muir in the lead. However, they would surrender their lead minutes before the break when Brackenfell ran in their second try of the match.

The second half was riddled with errors, poor decision making and not making use of opportunities which resulted in a stop-start game from both sides. Brackenfell did, however, manage to score their third try of the game, and the only points of the half, to seal victory for the Western Cape side.

*In a wet and windy second game, Muir manage to overcome Monument Park 7-3 in a low scoring match.

All the points were scored in the first half as weather conditions worsened in the second half, resulting in both sides being more conservative and mistakes making it difficult for either side to gain momentum.

Monument were the first to get their name on the scoreboard, through a penalty, after pinning Muir at ruck time. The College then managed to put a few phases together and protected the ball well in the wet conditions, which saw centre Sicelo Tole get front-foot ball and scoring the only try of the game with fullback Luphelo Miggels slotting the conversion for a tough victory.

**The third, and final, game saw Muir come into their stride as they comfortably beat Knysna High School 29-5 after going into the half-time break with a 12-5 lead.

Muir opened the scoring through No.8 Milali Mosi dotted before Knysna took advantage of a napping Muir side to open their account with a well-structured move to level the score. Muir would strike back though as inside centre Luphelo Miggels forced his way through the Knysna defence to score under the uprights after a cheeky show and go. Hooker Senkosi Ncapayi kicked the conversion to extend Muir lead going into the break.

Muir upped the intensity in the second half to score three unanswered tries by fullback Denver Wannies, wing Liam Human and center Sicelo Tole. Ncapayi kicked one successful conversion after the final try to seal victory for the Muir side.
