Monnas vs Klofies

They are old rugby rivals, one under the aegis of the Golden Lions, the other part of the Blue Bulls. Each have worked closely with his union.

Both have achieved success; neither gives way easily.

Season so Far

Klofies have been for years one of the strongest sides in South Africa, a fixture on the FNB Top 20, but that was not the case last year or this year. On the other hand Monnas have stayed up there with the best, ranked eighth at present.

Monnas have lost three of the 11 matches – all to Top 20 teams, Paul Roos, Helpmekaar and Outeniqua. But they have beaten Garsfontein and Nelspruit and drawn with Selborne.

Waterkloof are still playing top sides but they have lost to all their Top 20 opponents – Paarl Gim, Outeniqua, Jeppe, Boland Landbou and Paarl Boys' High – all tough fixtures.

That said, they did better than Monnas against their only common opponent – Outeniqua. The Kwaggas beat both – Waterkloof 10-3, Monument 40-25.

Experience

Both are sides that contribute greatly to their provinces' schools teams but there are not many still playing in the teams this year.

Centre MJ Pelser of Monnas is the only one back who was at Craven Week last year. There are two back who were at the Academy week – prop Nathan McBeth of Monnas and prop Gerrit Visser of Waterkloof. In addition the Monnas' half backs, Lukje Rossouw and Tinus Combrink and their eighthman PJ Jacobs were at the Grant Khomo Week.
