Muir beat Graeme - at last

Match report

Muir College of Uitenhage beat Graeme College of Grahamstown 35-28 on Saturday, a rare victory for Muir and enjoyed all the more for being rare.

Muir cashed in on the mistakes of Graeme to pip the visitors 35-28 in an exciting clash in Uitenhage. Muir last beat Graeme six years ago.

Siviwe Konki, son of the legendary Timothy Konki, opened the scoring when he latched onto the loose ball to score a try for the home side directly from the kick off.

Graeme responded with a try of their own soon after, but Muir extended their lead through further converted tries Bonga Jantjies and Zingisa Vuyelwa.

Graeme took the lead for the first time after half-time when Dylan Fetting rounded the opposition to score the second of his two tries.

However, the visitors’ joy was short lived as first Phiwe Lalendle, who pounced on a loose pass, and then Ncedo Marele, who effected a well-timed intercept, scored tries for Muir. Brendan Meyer was able to convert each of Muir’s tries to complete their scoring.

Lorenzo Southey kicked two penalties and a conversion, while Fetting (2), Justin Heathcote and Andre Erasmus scored tries for Graeme.
