Muir win in PE
Muir had to work hard in their 29-7 victory over Westering. The visiting Muir led 22-7 at the break.
Muir took a while to settle down as eagerness resulted in missed opportunities and poor decision-making. Once the Muir team settled down and played to their structure right wing Jade-Lee Booysen ran the opening try after a well worked move paid off. This spurred on the Muir side as they upped the intensity of the game. Westering did extremely well to slow Muir’s momentum. Westering slowed the ball down which allowed flyhalf Ruben de Vos to kick a penalty and extend Muir’s lead.
Muir’s forwards capitalised when cente Lunathi Nxele found a hole next to the ruck. Tthe forwards played off each other and finally flank Sibabalwe Jikani crossed the line. De Vos kick the conversion to extend the lead to 15-0.
Westering struck back as flyhalf Malford Damens crossed the line. Damens converted his own try to close the gap.
Muir was not done yet and Booysen ran in his second of the game after showing a clean pair of heals to round the defense, De Vos converted.
The second half was far from exciting as both teams were not in the game. Missed opportunities by Muir and poor decision-making allowed Westering in the game. Westring worked well at ruck time to force numerous turn-overs to regain possession.
After some sustained pressure by Muir in Westering’s 22m left wing Xolela Daniels crossed for the only try of the half. De Vos converted yet again. Both teams “fell asleep” in the last 10 minutes of the game resulting in numerous handling errors and an unentertaining session for spectators.
Muir prop Mmeli Nkebe worked well in the set phases and was prominent in defense to slow Westering’s progress. Mention also needs to go to flank Sibabalwe Jikani who’s try was just reward for his hard work and effort during the game.
