Muir win well
Muir started off slowly against hosts Despatch but finished strongly to take victory by 27 points to 12. Muir narrowly led 10-5 at the break.
The windy conditions at Despatch saw both sides play a conservative game during the first half. The scoreboard was opened by fullback Ruben de Vos when Despatch was caught off side at ruck time. Despatch struck back with a well orchestrated drive from a line-out to take the lead. Their lead was short lived when De Vos crossed the white wash and put the college ahead. De Vos kicked the conversion to extend the lead.
The second half saw both teams play with more vigour and have the crowd on their feet with some excellent running rugby. During the half Muir ran in three tries to Despatch's one. Muir’s tries were scored by Mihlali Nobomvu, Lunathi Nxele (the centre pairing) and fly-half Darren Wates. De Vos kicked only one conversion.
Muir’s forwards worked well in both tight and loose phases to secure ball for their backs. Lock pairing of Malusi Sitatu and Lutho Njobe worked well together in these phases.
Flyhalf Darren Wates “generalled” the backline well and made good use of wing Leigh-Angus Nell and fullback De Vos
