New Orleans in winning climax

There was a whole week of festivities and activities in the Interschools between New Orleans and Klein Nederburg, reaching a climax in the 1st XV match which New Orleans won the FNB Classic Clash 25-8.

In fact the Interschools belonged to New Orleans who won the main matches at boys' rugby and the girls' match as well, the netball, soccer, tabletennis (boys and girls) and the girls' basketball while Klein Nederburg won the boys' basketball.

The Saturday, the rugby day, produced the most miserable weather of the Cape winter – cold windy and very wet. But winning made it an enjoyable day for New Orleans. Their captain, Ayyoob Moerat, of the great family of rugby Moerats in Paarl, said: "It was a dream come true – just lifting that trophy."

Klein Nederburg surprised New Orleans by scoring first when fullback Owen Krediet went over for a try, but then New Orleans came back strongly as their forwards got more and more on top.

In the miserable weather of rain, wind and even hail, the New Orleans side handled better,

In the weather the crowd was not as big as expected but still bigger than the crowd at Newlands that watched Western Province play the Sharks in the Currie Cup.
