No more Country Districts?

In conversation with Owen Nkumane on Thursday morning Peter Jooste, a national selector, suggested that a change to the Craven Week's format was in the offing.

He suggested that the Border Country Districts team and possibly other Country Districts teams could go to the Academy Week instead of the Craven Week in future and that a team could be chosen from the Academy Week to play in the Craven Week.

In an attempt to broaden Craven Week opportunities for more players after the reduction of teams that followed in the wake of unification, regional teams had been introduced in 2001 – Northern Region, Central Region, Western Cape and East Coast. In 2002  Blue Bulls Country Districts and Border Country Districts were introduced. In 2003 the regional teams were scrapped and the Blue Bulls Country Districts was replaced by the Limpopo Blue Bulls, in effect the old rugby province of Far North.

One of Border Country's Districts' victories was over SA LSEN, chosen from the Craven Week for Learners with Special Educational Needs. They then went off an played in the Academy Week. This year they won two of their three matches. clearly it is a more comfortable week than Craven Week. Border Country Districts may find the same to be true – if it happens, that is.

Apart from the Border Country Districts results we also give results for Griquas Country Districts and Eastern Province Country Districts who have been playing stronger oppostion than Border Country Districts.
