Noord-Kaap win Classic Clash

In an FNB Classic Clash at Hoërskool Diamantveld in cold, windy Kimberley on Wednesday, Noord-Kaap beat arch rivals Diamantveld 22-15. The five-point margin possibly flatters Diamantveld.

It was Noord-Kaap's fifth successive win in this derby and the victory means that they go into the semifinal of the Shimla League for medium schools. They will play Jim Fouché in Kimberley.

From the world go Diamantveld got stuck in with their rugged tackling, led by the example of centre Jacques Nel. But Noord-Kaap's strike weapon was speedy wing Dimitrio Tieties who scored tries and a conversion for a personal tally of 12 points.

Noord-Kaap did the attacking and tries by Tieties and eighthman Shaun Clarke gave them a 10-0 lead at half-time.

Early in the second half the Diamantveld flyhalf Deon van Zyl dropped a goal but soon afterwards flank Luaan Dowie scored a try for Noord-Kaap. 15-3.

Strong prop Boetie Maketlo powered over under the posts. Tieties then scored his second try and Nel got one for the home side just before the end.
