NSW's Schools Sevens

The New South Wales Rugby Union with the help of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Sydney organised its Secondary Schools Championship with some 350 players, boys and girls.

The boys' winners were St Gregory's College of Campbelltown, a school founded by the Marist Brothers with a distinct agricultural slant.

The Lloyd McDermott development team won the Plate. McDermott was the first player of Aboriginal origin to play for the Wallabies and the first man of Aboriginal origin to become a barrister. He has done a great deal to promote rugby.

Hunter Sports High from near Newcastle, north of Sydney, won the Girls' Cup with Matraville in second place. Matraville is famous as the school attended by the Ella Wallabies and by coach Eddy Jones.

The tournament took place at  the Sydney Academy of Sports and Recreation in Narrabeen.

At the end of tournament best and fairest boy and girl were chosen with a trip to the Hong Kong Sevens in 2015 as part of their prize. The boy chosen was James Perlowski of St Gregory's College, the girl Jasmin Allende of Matraville.
