Paul Roos go farming

18 matches, 18 teams. Easy enough for Paul Roos Gymnasium with its 1 240 boys but take your hat off to Boland Landbou. They have just 350 boys at the school. 18 teams means 270 players, at least. Pretty well the whole school will be involved this Saturday, as they are on every rugby Saturday. And they remain highly competitive, fighting above their weight.

Season so Far

Both schools are ranked on the FNB Top 20 – Paul Roos second, Boland Landbou 16th, both schools amongst the very best rugby schools in South Africa.

This season Landbou have played 17 matches, winning 10 and losing seven. Of their opponents nine are or have been on the Top 20. All of their defeats have been against Top 20 sides and they in turn have beaten Dale and Bishops.

Paul Roos, in their 150th birthday year, have played 13 matches in South Africa, winning 11 and losing two. Nine of their opponents are or have been on the Top 20. Their defeats have been against the other Paarl Schools – Gim and Boys' High. Playing rugby in Paarl is tough, as Paul Roos will again find out when they go to the Farm.
