Pearson down and up
Pearson of Port Elizabeth played two matches last week – on Thursday at the Graeme Rugby Day in Grahamstown and then at the Despatch Sports Festival in Despatch on Saturday.
St Andrew's beat them 21-12 in Grahamstown and they beat Otto du Plessis 15-0 in Despatch.
Pearson vs St Andrew's
St Andrew's came out strongly and scored twice within the first 15 minutes to lead 14-0 at half-time. Pearson woke up after half-time with two great tries but missed one conversion to make the score 14-12.
Pearson had opportunities to win the game with a fading St Andrew's in the second half but missed two penalties.
With the score 14-12 to St Andrew's and three minutes to go Pearson attacked but fumbled the ball. St Andrew's picked up and scored for the final score to be 21-12 to St Andrew's
What a thrilling encounter and set up for the league fixture between the two schools on the 3 August.
Pearson vs Otto du Plessis
Pearson looked far too strong for their opponents from the first minute and scored two well-worked tries and a penalty in the game.
The score line could have been a much larger affair if it were not for a bit of white line fever by Pearson players and wanting to run every ball from every penalty, a gutsy effort though by Otto du Plessis, known to be the hard men from the Bay, to keep the score line to just 15 points difference.
