Potch Gimmies captain - Garran Kriek
Potch Gimmies are in great form at the moment and captain Garran Kriek is determined to ensure that it continues this weekend in their FNB Classic Clash with Potch Volkies.
Gimmies have won 11 out of their 14 games this year, so confidence is high although Kriek is adamant that they will not be taking anything for granted on Saturday.
The livewire scrumhalf is in his second year in the first team and played for the Leopards at Craven Week last year which he describes as a 'good experience because it was very hard rugby', so he knows just what is required of his side against a Volkies side looking for revenge for last year's defeat.
"It is always a hard game against Volkies and you never know, it is about the side with the most BMT [big match temperament] on the day," he explained.
Kriek, who plans to study a B.Sc at NWU next year and play rugby for Pukke, is expecting a tough test up front from their local rivals.
"They have a strong forward pack so it will be a physical game. Our team is more balanced than last year as our forwards are still strong but we also have a good backline," he said.
Kriek describes himself as an 'unpredictable' scrumhalf who does not kick the ball too often, and he will lead an experienced side with nine Matrics in the starting XV although there have been a few key injuries.
"Both of our centres and our flyhalf are injured, but it is not too bad and we will cope," he said.
