Preview: Driehoek v Dr Malan

 

Driehoek have dominated the rivalry and have the comfort of playing at home this weekend, but Dr Malan coach Tienie Deysel says that their opponents are in for a 'big surprise' if they underestimate the visitors this weekend.

 

Deysel has taken his team right through from Under-14, and he believes that they are ready to turn the tables on Driehoek this year.

 

"We beat them in the second team game last year, so we are ready.

 

"We play a running game, but we also have a great forward pack so we will keep it close at first and hopefully the game will open up for us," he said.

 

Driehoek coach Johan Meijer has taken his team from Under-15 when he first arrived at the school, and having been in charge when they won the FNB Classic Clash away last year he knows what it takes.

 

Meijer is expecting this DR Malan side to be stronger than other years, but with his team having beaten their counterparts through the age-groups he is confident that if they play to their ability they will come out on top.

 

"Our forwards are not big but we have a mobile pack, so we like to move the ball around and we know our forwards can get there to support," he explained.

 

Driehoek have won nine of their 13 games this season, with defeats coming against strong teams such as Middelburg Hoerskool and Potch Volkies, while scrumhalf Heino Keyser and captain and loosehead prop Ambrogio Rê will representing the Falcons at the Academy Week this year.
