Preview: Gill College vs Cradock
There will be no love lost when Gill College welcome rivals Hoërskool Cradock for their Classic Clash in Somerset East on Saturday.
Gill College will be confident they can get another victory over Cradock this year as they will have home ground advantage for the all-important clash.
They will be looking to make it three wins in a row over Cradock after their 23-12 and 20-10 wins in 2013 and 2014 respectively. An interesting stat about those two fixtures is that they were both played at Cradock's home ground.
Gill College head coach Johan Nel said he is pleased with how his team is shaping up ahead of the game.
"Preparations have been going well with only one real injury, which is our outside centre who broke his leg," said Nel.
"Normally when these two teams come up against each other it is pretty tough with not many big scores and this year we are expecting the same."
Nel said he wants his players to apply what they learned on the training field this week.
"I want them to go out and play the game on Saturday and at the same time I also want them to enjoy it. My message to them was that they should just stick to the game plan," Nel added.
Hoërskool Cradock head coach Ritus Meiring also has some big injury concerns to contend with. Both his centres are injured and will probably miss the contest.
However, Meiring is also happy with what he has seen in training this week.
"Preparations have been ok. These games are always hard and there is always a good vibe and interaction between the two schools," said Meiring.
The Cradock coach will also have a fairly young team this year to face the challenge that Gill will be throwing at them.
"We only have seven matriculants in our first team this year and the rest is all Under-16 players, who quickly had to come through the ranks," Meiring added.
