Preview: Humansdorp v Woodridge
An Eastern Cape Classic Clash will take place this Saturday as Woodridge College take on arch-rivals Humansdorp.
The crunch game will be hosted by Humansdorp, and Woodridge will be itching to get a victory which has eluded them over previous years.
The men from Thornhill(just outside Port Elizabeth) have not won against Humansdorp since 2011, but the captain of Woodridge 1st XV ensures that the results could have gone either way.
"The games [in the past] were always closely contested, and the result could have gone either way," said Brandon Phillips.
Humansdorp are characterised as a very fast paced team who like to spread the ball wide to their quick outside backs, and capatalise on their oppositions mistakes.
"They will always be physical, but their pace is their main strength," added Phillips.
"We cant afford to play catch up rugby. We need to get stuck in as soon as the first whistle goes.
"We need to keep to our game plan and our structures as much as possible and not get sucked into playing their style of rugby."
Humansdorp have a young side, and are missing two of their key wings in the backline. Captain Curtis Jantjies is aware of the threat that Woodridge pose and know they will be hungry for a win against their rivals.
"Woodridge have a point to prove," said Jantjies.
"They last won against us in 2011, and they will be desperate to win the opening Classic Clash."
