Preview: Ndzondelelo v Itembelihle

Township bragging rights will be up for grabs at the Zwide Stadium when Ndzondelelo take on Itembelihle in a Classic Clash on Thursday.

Matches between these two sides have been very tight over the last few years, with just one points separating the teams in their last two encounters.

Last year's match ended in controversial circumstances, with both teams claiming to have taken the victory in the end, which will add some extra spice to this edition of the rivalry.

Ndzondelelo have more players to choose from, with six teams and a proud tradition of rugby in the Zwide area, while Itembelihle of New Brighton have fewer numbers but no less passion for the game.

Hosts Ndzondelelo boast an impressive pack of forwards that will look to take their opponents on up front and force them onto the back foot, but Itembelihle have a potent backline and will spread the ball wide at every opportunity, which should make for a fascinating duel.

The difference between the teams is perhaps best illustrated by their captains, with Itembelihle following flyhalf and playmaker Akho Tshoba, and Ndzondelelo led by hooker Mziwakhe Mjacu.

Itembelihle have travelled more this year, visiting Cape Town and Kwa-Zulu Natal to take part in different tournaments, while Ndzondelelo have kept it more local at the Harlequins Easter tournament.

The home side have won three of their four league matches thus far this year, and they are intent on setting the record straight in front of what is sure to be a vocal crowd, enhanced by their drums which make the atmosphere of this match all the more special.

Itembelihle's coach Theo Pieterse knows that his team is in for a tough examination.

"It is going to be a tight game again. We are going to come with their forwards and we are going to come with our backs. I just want the guys to go out and enjoy themselves," he said.

Ndzondelelo coach Gerald Antonie is expecting Itembelihle to push his team all the way.

"When it comes to the FNB Classic Clash it is a completely different story.

"We know where to beat Itembelihle, we will take them up front, that is where our strength lies," he said.
