Queen's visit Grey
Queen's College of Queenstown leave their cold mountains and head down to Grey High School near the Indian Ocean in Port Elizabeth. They are two of the great, traditional boys' schools in the Eastern Cape. Grey was founded in 1856, Queen's in 1858.
They have been playing each other at rugby for nearly a century.
Logistically the visit is a big affair. Apart from angling, chess, cross country, debating, golf, squash and tennis teams, 19 rugby teams will be in action and 11 squash teams as boys and teachers have lots of fun. And recently Grey did the same for Wynberg.
This year the teams may not be as strong as they usually are but in the South African context they remain excellent teams.
The only opponents they have in common are the powerful Affies side of Pretoria who beat Queen's 27-13 and Grey 31-3 and Maritzburg College who beat Grey 18-10 and lost to Queen's 34-23. Grey beat Paul Roos, Diamantveld (51-10) and Westville but lost to Wynberg and Outeniqua. Queen's lost to Jeppe, Die Brandwag of Uitenhage and Selborne. But then results do not tell you much about the match at hand.
