Queen’s win Stirling Derby
The Queen's College First XV were at their destructive best this past Saturday with a comprehensive 78-5 win against Stirling High School. The half-time score was 41-5.
The Queenstown weather played a significant part in the outcome of the match with temperatures dropping below 10 degrees and a freezing wind adding to very unpleasant playing conditions. However, the men from Queenstown played the conditions superbly to score 11 tries, seven of which were converted and adding four penalties.
It is very difficult to single out any particular Queen’s College player. Every player was superb and delivered a near perfect cocktail of aggressive running and skilful handling, complimented with good defence. Stirling had no answers to the high tempo game plan executed superbly by the Queenians, but they did manage to score an unconverted try in the first half.
The men from Queenstown have completed the second term Derby fixtures on a high note and will go into the June holidays in a positive frame of mind. Some players are involved with the Border Craven Week and Academy squads and we wish them well for their forthcoming tours. The third term will be a challenging one with fixtures against Port Rex (Home), Selborne (Away), Hangklip (Away), Cambridge (Away) and Dale (Home) making for a mouth-watering end to the 2012 season.
