Rhinos in Ireland
In 2008 Tony Stoops and Stokkies Truter of Hoerskool Tygerberg put their heads (and pockets) togther and started the Festival for schools that did not qualify for one of the Easter Tournaments. The Festival has grown and in 2014 43 teams took place.
It has become a popular, friendly, felxible, acccommodating, welcoming tournament. One of its aims was to choose a team from the festival to tour abroad. That has nbeen realised now and 23 players from the 2015 Festival are in Ireland.
They left from Cape Town on Tuesday, 29 September 2015 and arrived in Dublin on a three-match tour. The play a Leinster XV, then Roscrea College and then Naas RFC, before arriving home on 8 October 2015.
The boys funded their own fares, which in some cases were a community project.
Tha management team consisted of manager Stokkies Truter and coaches Kuyper Albertyn of De Kuilen and Louis van Straaten of Tygerberg
The tour will doubtless be a highlight for the lucky 23.
