Rondebosch Move on SACS

The South African College High School (SACS) host Rondebosch Boys’ High School on the Memorial A-Field at SACS, while Diocesan College (Bishops) host Wynberg Boys’ High School.

SACS versus Rondebosch is always a huge encounter but on Saturday it holds extra significance. the two schools were predicted to be the Southern Suburb heavyweights at the start of the season. SACS had their main playmakers Lucky Dlepu, David Hayes and Jordy Hop back from 2016 plus talented forwards coming through their ranks. Rondebosch had the majority of their very successful 2016 team back.

SACS have had a very good season in that they have two Boland scalps, namely Paarl Gim for the first time in twenty-one years and Boland Landbou. they have also seen off Grey High, Selborne College and the best performing team in the Eastern Cape, St Andrew's College, as well as one of Kwa-Zulu Natal's finest in DHS. Somewhat ironically the blotches on their copybook lie closest to home in that they have drawn with (24-all) and lost to Bishops (15-12 last week), while also drawing to Rondebosch last term. Saturday is therefore a vital match for them in the context of their season.

The same applies to Rondebosch who have flattered to deceive, recording no wins against Boland opposition while also losing to Queens College and drawing with Dale College at the Cape Schools Week Festival they hosted in July. they beat Jeppe back in April and last weekend completed a double over Wynberg but the major highlights of their season would be their 14-all draw to, at the time high-riding, SACS and their 32-19 demolition of archrivals Bishops on their Piley Rees Field. Rondebosch needs this win on Saturday badly in the context of their season.

Somewhat ironically both teams are captained by their scrumhalves. SACS by Western Province Craven Week captain Lucky Dlepu and Rondebosch by Robbie Davis. Davis is a gifted footballer with an educated boot. He had the better of their personal duel when the teams met back in June and will be hoping to get one over his rival once again on Saturday. After a disappointing Craven Week Dlepu is once again hitting form and he will be looking to repeat his performance of a year ago, when he almost singlehandedly beat Rondebosch with numerous devastating counter-attacking runs.

It’s all set up for a monumental encounter which fittingly is going to be refereed by the hugely experienced Mr Jonathan Kaplan.
