Rooibulle Run Down to the Sea
HTS Middelburg will go down over the Drakensberg to Durban to meet Glenwood High School when Durban’s climate is at its best. The weather forecast for this Saturday is sunshine with a high of 23°C and a comfortable low of 12°C.
It is likely to be a pleasant contact between two schools who have been so prominent in South Africa’s schoolboy rugby in recent years.
The two 1st teams met at the Kearsney Easter Festival in 2016 when Glenwood won 17-6. Then last year Glenwood went up to Mpumalanga for an interschools contact. This time Glenwood had a runaway victory – 83-0.
This year they are both sides that can stand up to stiff opposition, though, again, Glenwood have been having the better season and are ranked 15th on the Top 20 while HTS Middelburg are unranked.
Season So Far
Glenwood have played 11 matches, including four against other Top 20 sides. They have won eight and lost three of their matches.
HTS Middelburg’s Rooibulle have played 12 matches, including one against a Top 20 side. They have won eight of their 12 matches.
Results Against Common Opponents
Garsfontein: Glenwood lost 39-24; HTS Middelburg lost 44-27.
Transvalia: Glenwood won 38-7; HTS Middelburg won 55-21.
If those results mean anything, Saturday’s match could be close.
Achievers
Glenwood’s players are eligible for the Sharks Craven Week side while HTS Middelburg’s players are eligible for the Pumas of Mpumalanga.
At the Craven Week both the Sharks and the Pumas lost to South Western Districts – the Sharks 39-31 and the Pumas 43-22.
