SACS 17 Hugenote 13

Good win for SACS

Due to fixture congestion in the Boland, SACS hosted Hugenote of Wellington on Wednesday afternoon. The teams kicked off just as the hot sun dipped below Devil's Peak and the match was played in near-perfect conditions. The match proved to be a tense affair, with both teams benefiting from intercept tries.

The teams felt each other out for much of the first half. Hugenote were very physical and well organised while SACS were guilty of missing numerous scoring opportunities. SACS left-wing Dean Holland broke the deadlock, scoring what is fast becoming a trademark long-range try which included two vicious hand-offs. Hugenote were competitive throughout and replied with two penalties.

Tim Carr kicked a penalty to put SACS 10-6 up midway through the second half and SACS looked to have the match sewn up soon after when Holland intercepted and ran 50 metres to score.

Leading 17-6, SACS looked confident and played some excellent rugby as they went in search of the killer blow. Unfortunately mere metres from the Hugenote line a pass went astray and the Hugenote left-wing ran the length to breathe life back into the contest.

Hugenote threw everthing into attack in the final few minutes, but were unable to breach a resolute SACS defence.

SACS have now won three games on the trot and with a visit to HTS Bellville up next they will be looking to build more confidence before visiting high-riding Bishops.
