Sanix Youth Rugby Tournament - 1st rounds
Monnas winning
The 2006 Sanix World Rugby Youth Invitational Tournament is taking place in Fukuoka, Japan. Hoërskool Monument of Krugersdorp is taking part.
In all there are 16 schools, eight from Japan and eight from abroad.
This is the seventh such tournament. The first winners, in 2000, were King's of Parramatta in Australia when they beat Paul Roos in the final. After that Grey College of Bloemfontein and then Boland Landbou won. Rotorua Boys High won two years in a row, when St Alban's and then Ermelo were South African representatives, and in 2005 Christchurch Boys High were the winners when Waterkloof represented South Africa.
It is an exacting tournament. The winner will have to win five matches in six days. They play from 29 April to 5 May with a day off on 1 May. This is during what is called the Golden Week – a time of public holidays in Japan with Greenery Day on 29 April, Constitution Memorial Day on 3 May, "Between Day" on 4 May and Children's Day on 5 May.
The matches are played in the Global Arena, Munakata-city in Fukuoka, an industrial city on the island of Kyushu.
