Schools: More Bad News
These are bad times for sport, big and small. In South Africa, tournaments are being cancelled because of the coronavirus in the wake of the wake of the President Ramaphosa’s declaration of a state of disaster.
Wildeklawer organisers have announced that their sports tournament from 23 to 26 April 2020 has been cancelled. They intend that there will again be a rugby and netball tournament in 2021.
The Oakdale Rugby Week, scheduled to start this Saturday, has been cancelled.
Grey High School in Port Elizabeth has cancelled its rugby and hockey festivals. There were 67 matches scheduled for the rugby festival alone. It was to have taken place over two days, 21 and 23 March 2020.
Kearsney College has cancelled its 2020 Easter Festival, scheduled for 9-13 April 2020. In 2021, the school celebrates its centenary and hopes for an even greater tournament than usual.
The Tony Stoops Festival at Hoërskool Brackenfell hopes to be shifted to July.
KES have cancelled their Easter Festival.
Paarl Gim have cancelled their Under-16 tournament.
The Paarl Boys’ High tour to Ireland has been cancelled.
St Stithians has cancelled the Saints Easter Sports Festival, the doyen of Easter Festivals in South Africa.
Krugersdorp High School are sad to have called off their Easter Festival when several of the teams were visitors from Zimbabwe.
Some time ago Affies announced that they had cancelled the Rugby World Schools Festival which they were organising as part of their centenary celebrations.
The Saints Easter Festival of St Stithians in Randburg and the St John’s College Easter Festival have been cancelled.
Union High in Graaff-Reinet have cancelled their 33rd annual Rugby & Hockey Festival scheduled for 20-23 March 2020.
