Schools North-South Fixtures

In the 19th century and much of the 20th century it was Transvaal vs Western Province. Then in 1938 Northern Transvaal was born and North vs South became Northern Transvaal vs Western Province.

This rivalry had different meanings for different people. For some it was mountains vs mine dumps, vines vs mealies, wine vs brandy & coke, culture vs money, passing vs skop'ncharge, brains vs brute force – that sort of thing if you lived in the south. Real men vs softies if you lived in the north.

In early April this year four schools from the north will play against four schools from the south. They will, do so at Hoërskool Waterkloof in Pretoria.

Teams

North: Dr EG Jansen, Garsfontein, Menlopark and Waterkloof. (Nobody from Johannesburg)

South: Boland Landbou, Outeniqua, Paarl Gim and Stellenberg.

Of the schools only Menlopark and Stellenberg were not in the FNB Top 20 in 2016.
