Schools Results - 27 July 2019
In the results each week there are surprises but seldom one as great as Pretoria Boys High’s rare victory this week over neighbours Affies.
They first played in 1923 and in early years Boys High frequently won but in 50 years since 1969, they won only eight times. This win is all the sweeter. It is also a grand farewell present for the Boys High principal who is off to Bishops next year.
In Houghton there was a Premier Interschools match in which KES, apparently with help from altitude, beat Maritzburg College.
There was drama in the Classic Clash at Boland Stadium in Wellington. With four minutes to plat Bergrivier led Weltevrede 24-14. Then Ashwin Manual scored a try. 24-19. Then Bergrivier wan a scrum a long, long way from their tryline with time up but Conwill Hendricks intercepted. He was brilliantly tackled by Adam Steenkamp at the tryline but a pass to fullback Garland Jacobs sent him over for a try a fair way out to the left. From there, with the a score 24-all, Micayle Jones converted to the great joy of Weltevrede supporters.
