Schools Results - 6 July 2019
Schools have mostly had a rugby hiatus during the midwinter break but these results are from Hoërskool Swartland’s winter tournament, which had two rugby days.
The match between Schoonspruit of Malmesbury and Stonyhurst happened before the Swartland tournament.
Most teams are from Western Cape schools but there were also Stonyhurst, the Jesuit school in Lancashire, Muir College of Uitenhage, Cheadle Hulme, a coed private school of Stockport in England and Gill College of Somerset East.
Five of the schools taking part are well over 100 years old. Stonyhurst was founded in 1593 in France at a time when Catholic education was forbidden in England. The school then moved to Stonyhurst in 1794. Muir and SACS compete in the claim to being the oldest school in South Africa. SACS was founded in 1829, Muir claims 1822, amalgamating with others and becoming Muir in 1892. Cheadle Hulme was founded in 1855, Gill in 1869.
