Not that, it seems, Affies and Paarl Boys' High are likely to suffer from surprises.
Part of the surprises is in the scores – not only by Affies and Paarl Boys' High, but also by Duineveld, Glenwood, Welkom Gim, Koster, Swartruggens, Vereeniging Gim and Vryburg. and
In the Eastern Cape Daniël Pienaar's win over Grey is certainly a surprise. In Northvaal there was the shock defeat of Jeppe by Ben Vorster of Tzaneen and that at Ellis Park when thousands packed into the ground for the great match between Lions and Stormers.
While not a surprise there was an high-class battle in Paarl between Gimmies and Paul Roos and in Queenstown between Queen's and Selborne in a high-scoring match.
There are several old rivalries, including the one between Gimmies and Volkies in Potchefstroom.
Schools rugby is certainly alive, well and interesting.
