There were six Classic Clashes. Dr Malan won theirs by just one point. Kearsney were comparatively comfortable winners against Maritzburg College, in Pietermaritzburg nogal. Zwartkop had a narrow win over while Linden, Bellville South and Lichtenburg won their matches by good margins.
There are some oldfashioned scores like 8-6, 7-5 and 11-7, but there are also matches of high scoring, often by both teams – like 39-36, 43-29, 31-16 and even a 32-all draw. Both the oldfashioned way and the modern way have their virtues, if the boys enjoyed the matches and tried their best. But it must be fun for boys to go home from 39-36 and tell their parents: "I scored a try." In such a score, several can do that.
In some places some matches did not take place because of Craven Week trials – sad that the many did not play because the few were away.
Kannaland? An area of Little Karroo in the Western Cape whose main towns are Ladismith, Calitzdorp and Van Wyksdorp. The team that played Hoërskool Langenhoven is chosen from schools in this area.
