St John's Results, Day 1
Down on Burger field, looking up the steep koppie to the stone buildings of the great school, the St John's 19th Easter Festival got under way on Thursday morning with a big win for powerful Paarl Boys' High.
Boys' High led St Charles 28-0 at half time and added just a single try in the second half. Their score was made up of five converted tries.
Crowds of supporters popped in to the opening day to experience some fantastic and exciting rugby. Our school boys rugby had some of the best teams and was a credit to all the schools.
The best team on show was our visiting international team from Australia, Scots College. Their style of play, ball in hand and interlinking between backs and forwards proved to be extremely dynamic. It was very refreshing to see the ball thrown around.
A big highlight for the festival and for the very first time was the introduction of floodlit night rugby. Both Nelspruit and the hosts, St John’s College, contributed to the fantastic atmosphere with a scintillating final game.
We look forward to more exciting rugby on Saturday with a number of interesting match ups, such as Paarl Boys vs Jeppe and Paul Roos vs Waterkloof.
