Stephe Viljoen – Potchestroom Volkskool Captain

This week we have another Potchestroom derby as Volkskool travel to Gimnasium for a FNB Classic Clash. Volkskool will be led out by their No.6 flank Stephe Viljoen.
Stephe Viljoen was born in Carltonville on 23 August 1988. He attended Laerskool Dagbreek in Carltonville before moving to the hostel at Potch Volkskool in Grade 8. Stephe comes from a rugby playing family. His father having played Craven Week in his day. Stephe has excelled at Volkies and is headboy of the hostel and is a school prefect. He is enjoying the experience of leading his school of 1 100 pupils and the 1st XV.
Stephe played lock in junior school and moved to flank in Grade 8. He is fetcher flank who defends well. He is playing in his second year in the Volkies 1st XV and has made it into the Leopards Craven Week team this year. Not surprisingly Stephe’s rugby hero is Bok openside flank Schalk Burger. What may be surprising though is that this boy from the far north has been a life-long Western Province supporter. Something he could not explain.
Stephe say that Volkies are going pretty well this season, with their best win to date having come two weeks ago against Brits. Their strength this year according to Stephe lies in the backs. They have two very good centres, who regularly break the line and a wing who has also made the Craven Week team. Stephe enjoys supporting and playing off his prolific centres.
Volkies won last year’s FNB Classic Clash 10-5 at home. The teams meet only once a season and so this is the biggest game of the season for both teams and a big crowd is expected.
Stephe intends studying Recreation and Tourism Management at Pukke next year and will further his rugby at their academy. For now though his focus is entirely on Saturday’s FNB Classic Clash.
