The Big Kimberley Derby

It’s the big schools match in Kimberley this Saturday, Hoërskool Noord-Kaap vs Hoërskool Diamantveld, a Classic Clash.

Both of them are ambitious schools when it comes to rugby, ready to play the best in the land.

Diamantveld again hosted the Wildeklawer Schools Rugby Tournament, which has a big concentration of top school sides annually.

Season So Far

Both sides have been doing well with Noord-Kaap the better of the two. Noord-Kaap, who have had the tougher fixture list so far this season, is currently ranked 17th on the Top 20.

Noord-Kaap have played seven matches, winning five and losing to Selborne and Outeniqua.
Diamantveld have also played seven, winning four and then losing the next three, to Oakdale, Stellenberg and Waterkloof.

Noord-Kaap beat Dr EG Jansen, HTS Middelburg, Maritzburg College, Sentraal of Bloemfontein and Helpmekaar.
Diamantveld beat Die Brandwag, Jim Fouché, Upington and Zwartkop.

The match will be keenly contested on a firm, Highveld field. Both teams run and score tries. Noord-Kaap have averaged 26 points per match as indeed have Diamantveld.

In 2017 Noord-Kaap won 48-39. Last year Diamantveld won 6-5. The score this year is more like to be close to the lavish score of 2017 than the niggardly score of 2018 – much more so.

First Teams

Each side has a player who was a Craven week next year – Elzandro Fredericks, Noord-Kaap’s thrilling fullback and Diamantveld’s flank Sello Maketlo.
