The Big SWD Derby

The South Western Districts team for the Craven Week this year is fundamentally a combination of its two great rugby schools – Outeniqua of George and Oakdale of Riversdale – and these two mighty schools, some 130 km apart, meet in George on Saturday, a thrilling prospect.

Season so Far

Oakdale have played eight matches and lost only one – to HTS Middelburg which is the only other Top 20 team they have played.

Outeniqua have played nine matches, winning seven and losing two. They beat Selborne and Waterkloof who are also Top 20 matches but lost to Rondebosch and Paarl Boys' High.

They have no common opponents.

Status

Both first teams are ranked on the FNB Top 20 – Oakdale 11th and Outeniqua 19th, which is really close when one thinks of the hundreds of rugby schools in South Africa.

Achievers

There are 11 Oakdale players and nine Outeniqua players in the South Western Districts side.
