The Great Graaff-Reinet Derby

The town is called the Gem of the Karroo and this match is the gem of its rugby, again this year a Classic Clash. Everybody in Graaff-Reinet will know that it's all on down at the Botanics.

During the whole week the excitement grows for this, the biggest sporting event of the year in the beautiful old town, the fourth oldest in South Africa and still a town with its antiquities on show.

Interschools is not just about rugby. There is also shooting, tennis, chess, golf, quiz, public speaking, debating and hockey.

Season So Far

Union High have had a strong season, taking on and just losing to schools like Kingswood and Graeme. On the other hand Volkskool have suffered some heavy defeats – 36-5 at the hands of Hangklip and 45-10 at the hands of Charlie Hofmeyr. Union High drew 18-all with Gill College but Volkskool lost to them 37-19. Both beat Westering – Volkskool 18-10, Union High 34-5.

In their last match Union High beat Pearson of Port Elizabeth 27-21. Earlier in the season Pearson beat Volkskool 19-8.

Achievers

The players of both schools were eligible to play for Eastern Province Country Districts at the 2016 Craven Week. Each school had three representatives.

Neither school had a player in the Academy Week side.
