Tiere too good for Brakkies
A large crowd of around 2 700 turned out at Tygerberg for the game with both schools recording close victories in the earlier games on the day.
The first half was typical derby fare as both sides felt each other out.
Both sides were on the board early with penalties before Tygerberg got the game's first try through centre Tyron Scholtz in the ninth minute. Brackenfell hit back with another penalty by flyhalf Branden de Kock before Reinhard Groenewald gave Brakkies the lead in the 34th minute with try.
At half-time it was the visitors who were 11-10 in front.
Tygerberg threw the ball wide to good effect in second half, creating gaps in the Brackenfell defence, which enabled them to score.
Tygerberg flyhalf Marco Stassen got his team's second try in the 45th minute before Uwe Geissler got the fourth 10 minutes later. Stassen got the game's final points 12 minutes before full-time with his second try.
Brackenfell did come close to scoring late in the game, but dogged defence by Tygerberg and indiscipline cost them opportunities.
Tygerberg captain Shane Farmer said: "We rose to the occasion with our crowd behind us. We owe a great deal to our inspirational coach, Gavin Beresford.
Brackenfell captain Jean-Marc Fuchs said: "I couldn’t have asked more from my team; they gave their all, but we were beaten by a better side."
