Top 20 - 25 June 2008
Lots of teams have not played as Bondedag took over in the north with the approach of Craven Week. So we shall record this Top 20 and then stay in abeyance until rugby gets going again next term.
The top two sides both had big wins – Grey over Queen’s and Gim over De Kuilen.
EG Jansen also had a massive win and Eldoraigne and Boland Landbou won well. Bishops beat near-neighbours Rondebosch in the rain. That match was shown on television.
In the match there was a yellow card given against a Rondebosch player who had played his heart out for his school – a good and honest lock. Must we really have a referee drawing himself up as statuesquely as possible and brandishing a yellow card in front of a noble boy to condemn him to the temporary imprisonment.
Surely we do not need that in schoolboy rugby with the whole world to see it on television. A player could get sent to the sin bin without the use of a card and such a sending may well be better reserved for foul play and not some accumulative effect of a schoolboy team’s overeagerness.
Enough. We shall try to reward those who played and did well. This has given us a long tail but it does help those four schools to establish a foothold.
