TSRF 2012 first day fixtures
With several teams hopping aboard as recently as mid-February, the organisers of the 2012 Copytype Tony Stoops Rugby Festival can announce the fixtures for the opening round on Friday, 23 March and Saturday, 24 March.
Although the festival is being played at Hoërskool President in Goodwood, it has become necessary to move two games forward to Milnerton High School on Friday, 23 March, starting at 14.00 so that every participant will be free to watch the feature match, Tygerberg High vs Noord-Kaap, at 15.00 on Saturday, 24 March.
Plenty of sides will be making their debuts. These include Hugenote (Wellington), HTS Newton (Port Elizabeth), Port Natal (Durban), Langenhoven High (Riversdale), Sao Bras (Mossel Bay), Bellville South and Vredenburg. In total 40 schools – around 900 young players – will have strutted their stuff by the end of Wednesday’s programme
For those bold enough to ask how so many sides can be accommodated, the answer is fairly simple.
There is no entry fee, but out-of-town teams have to see to their own board and refreshments. Pretty well all the Western Province and Boland sides commute in and out each day. Having four fields right next to one another helps, as does having the head of Western Province referees, the evergreen Ben Theron, in personal charge of the match officials!
Fixtures for Monday 26 March and Wednesday, 28 March will be announced after the end of the previous match day’s play in order to ensure contests between teams of similar strength.
Entrance costs are R10 per vehicle, plus R5 per person.
