Villager Sevens on Friday

It is believed to be the second longest-running Sevens tournament in rugby history, second only to the Melrose Sevens and fair Melrose is where Sevens started.

The Sevens was the brain child of Dave Stewart, Villagers, Western Province and South Africa. If you want to hear rugby idealism, talk to him, and this tournament owes him so much for the spirit in which it happens and for the way the men of Villagers have run it.

It used to be a night on which foul weather was a certainty, but, it seems, not this year. There is no rain forecast just a partly could day with a high of 19°C, dropping to 12°C.

The Sevens will actually be a two-day affair, for on Thursday evening the Old Boys of Bishops, Rondebosch, SACS and Wynberg will reminisce with a tournament of their own.

The traditional Sevens will be on the Friday, 2 September 2016, starting at 14.40..

Paarl Gim, winner in 2015 will be back again.

The teams taking part are Bishops A, Bishops B, Excelsior, Fish Hoek, HTS Bellville, Jag Malibu, Langa, Milnerton, Paarl Gym A, Paarl Gym B, Rondebosch A, Rondebosch B, SACS A, SACS B, Tygerberg A, Tygerberg B, Tygerberg RFC, Usasazo Secondary, Villager Invitational, Voortrekker, Westerford, Western Cape Sports School, Wynberg A, Zishukanyo Secondary.
