Volkies host Gimmies in Potch
In the oldest town in the old Transvaal, Potchefstroom Volkskool host Potchefstroom Gimnasium in an FNB Classic Clash on Saturday.
Matches of this kind provoke lots of interest in the quiet town and this is their second FNB Classic Clash this month after the excitement of the clash between HTS and Boys' High.
In the FNB Classic Clashes Volkies won for six years and then in 2012 Gimmies won for the first time and they repeated the dose in 2013, winning 29-13.
Gimmies have played 11 matches, losing just two. Those two defeats were at the hand of Grey Bloem, ranked Number 1 on the FNB Top 20, and Garsfontein who are ranked sixth. Volkies have not played anybody as strong as those two.
Gimmies have drawn with Transvalia and beaten Jeugland, Die Anker, Drostdy of Worcester, Riebeeckrand, Hugenote of Springs, Hoërskool Middelburg, Dr Malan and Klerksdorp.
Volkies have beaten Driehoek, Montana of Pretoria and Noordheuwel but have lost to Ben Vorster, Wonderboom, Hoërskool Middelburg and Lichtenburg.
Common Opponents
Their only opponents in common are Hoërskool Middelburg of Mpumalanga.
Gimmies beat Middelburg 24-23.
Volkies lost to Middelburg 31-20.
The signs suggest a third win for Gimmies but then Volkies with its Grade 11 players may just have the enthusiasm to turn the tables.
