Volkies win FNB Classic in Potch
Match Report
The FNB Classic Clash in Potchefstroom between Gimnasium and Volkskool at the Gimnasium Mooivallei sports grounds resulted in a 20-0 victory for Volkskool.
Volkskool won the Clash in 2005 by 10-5 on their home turf.
Volkies led 15-0 at the break. Volkies took the lead in the first minute of the game with a penalty by Tiaan Visser.
Four minutes later the Volkskool flyer, Berty Visser crossed the line after a splendid break by the Tiaan Visser. Visser could not convert and missed a penalty in the 17th minute.
Donovan Fouché scored for Volkskool after a set move from a line-out on the Gimnasium try-line and Visser converted to make the half-time score 15-0.
Gimnasium came back after the break in a more positive frame of mind and started attacking. Only desperate defence kept them away from the Volkskool try-line.
Volkskool broke the Gimnasium hold on the game late in the second half for the flyhalf Gerhard van Tonder to score in the 28th minute. Visser missed the conversion and the final score was 20-0.
Gimnasium had not even one attempt at goal.
The Volkskool scrumhalf Elmor Kruger was announced Man of the Match.
