Volksies take on Andrew Rabie
Volkskool went down to Port Elizabeth tro play Andrew Rabie, winning 13-12.
With the torrential rain that fell over the weekend in the Eastern Cape some rugby games were affected. Fortunately the rugby field at Andrew Rabie was playable and they hosted the manne from Graaff-Reinet.
For the Volkskool boys there was the added excitement of being able to watch a live Super 15 rugby match after their matches as the school had done a block booking at the Nelson Mandela rugby stadium for the Bulls versus the Kings match. For many of the lads this was the first time they were able to see their heroes live and they loved it. The buses got back to Graaff Reinet only in the early hours of the morning but all the kids were happy and smiling.
The games against Andrew Rabie were tough in the wet and both first teams struggled to control the ball. Coming from the Karoo Volkskool hardly ever plays in the rain, and so conditions did not suit them at all. The field was heavy underfoot and the speedsters from both teams were unable to get going. Still, the spectators that braved the inclement weather were treated to uncompromising defence and surprising skills considering the elements. Volkskool won the match and both sides were more than relieved to hit the showers.
