Weazel Zealand – Weltevrede captain

Player Profile

The small Boland town of Wellington comes to a stand still on Saturday afternoon as Weltevrede and Bergrivier meet in a FNB Classic Clash. Weazel Zealand captains Weltevrede from the back of the scrum.

Weazel Zealand was born in Wellington on 20 June 1987 and attended Hillcrest Junior School in the town. He played soccer in junior school and began playing rugby in Grade 8 at Weltevrede. It took him a while to find his preferred position before settling in at eighthman.

Currently in Grade 12, Weazel is playing in his third year in the 1st XV. A player blessed with natural with speed and skill, Weazel loves to run with the ball and excels in attack. His favourite player is Stormers and Springbok No.8 Joe van Niekerk.

Weltevrede have a well-balanced team this year but they have battled a bit this year in terms of results. They have only one win over Luckhof and a draw to their credit. Despite this Weazel says his team are really well focussed and he is confident enough to call his team favourites for Saturday’s game.

Next year Weazel hopes to further his studies at that great rugby nursery, Stellenbosch University but for now his focus is squarely on Saturday and the biggest game of his career to date.
