Weston blow Treverton away
On Saturday May 2, the town of Mooi River came to a standstill as the two High Schools in town took to the field for the annual Treverton v Weston classic clash.
Those who arrived early to hosts Treverton were treated to some great rugby in the build up to the main game. With both schools winning two matches each.
The crowd attendance was a bit smaller than expected with previous years attracting more than 2000 spectators. However, this did not dampen the atmosphere at all, with those that were there making more than enough noise.
The first-half saw Treverton with early dominance of both possession and territory, however they were unable to make this count, and with Weston's first chance to counter attack and score, they did.
The Weston flyhalf, Khulekani Malanda spread the ball wide, and looped around to position himself perfectly to catch the last pass and score in the corner. However he was unable to convert his own try.
Fullback Brandon Slow score another try just before half-time which Weston managed to convert. The half-time score was 12-0 to the away-side.
The second-half saw Weston apply more pressure, however failed to convert the pressure into points. This was due to good cover defence from the home side, as well as poor handling.
When they did crack the defence, it came from turnover ball in midfield, which saw the Weston boys running into space and putting center Wandile Nkambule away.
The final try came with the last minute of play with the Weston reserve scoring, and the final score was 24-0 to Weston.
