Wildeklawer this Weekend!
SCHOOL SPOTLIGHT: The Wildeklawer Schools Rugby and Netball Tournaments start at Hoërskool Diamantveld on the evening of Thursday, 1 May 2019, Workers Day.
It is the 11th such tournament.
Most of the matches are played on Thursday and Saturday. The match on Wednesday evening is between hosts Diamantveld and Stellenberg of Durbanville.
The rugby teams taking part are amongst the strongest schoolboy teams in the land. They are Affies, Boland Landbou, Diamantveld, Drostdy, Framesby, Garsfontein, Glenwood, Grey College of Bloemfontein, Menlopark, Helpmekaar, Monument, Noord-Kaap, Oakdale, Outeniqua, Paarl Boys’ High, Paarl Gim, Stellenberg, Transvalia, Waterkloof, Welkom Gimnasium
The sponsors would like to be able to attract more English-medium schools. At the moment there is just one – Glenwood High School of Durban.
Of the 20 schools taking part, 15 are ranked on the Top 20. Grey College are ranked first and Paarl Gim second. The two meet on Saturday afternoon.
There are three sons of Springboks due to take part – Riis du Plessis, son of Carel and Paarl Boys’ High’s fullback, Conwill Conradie, son of Bolla and Stellenberg’s scrumhalf, and Henry Tromp, son of Henry and Outeniqua’s hooker.
There are also age-group matches.
