World Schools Move to Paul Roos

Paarl Boys’ High played host to the first World Schools Festival in South Africa in March-April this year. There will be a second festival, organised by the same organisers, on 25-30 March 2019, hosted this time by Paul Roos Gymnasium in Stellenbosch.

There are expected to be 20 school teams involved, 10 South African and 10 from overseas.

The idea off such a festival is the work of Heyneke Meyer, the former Springbok coach. He said: “We were very pleased with the success of inaugural World Schools Festival event earlier this year, and are very excited by the response for the overseas teams who have already expressed interest in participating in 2019. They are all very eager to be part of the Rest of The World team taking on the SA Schools in the Ryder Cup-style competition which was implemented in 2018.”

Paul Roos will have a say in who is invited to the festival. The school’s rector, André van Staden, said: “We are delighted and proud to host the second edition of this exciting rugby festival, and look forward to welcoming the world’s most promising young rugby players to Paul Roos Gymnasium.”

2018 Results

Of the 10 overseas teams taking part, four were each teams from an individual school.
