Paarl's massive Interschools

It is the Interschools. There are others but really Interschools means Paarl Boys’ High vs Paarl Gim in Paarl in August – the Galpille against the Bloedworse and all the world passionately in support of one or the other.

This year the big match is on 4 August, and a huge, excited, cheerful crowd will be at the ground on Faure Street. One half of the field will be blue, the other half green, and the twin do not mix – except on the field that is. There will be many matches but it is the result of the match between the first rugby teams that really counts. Win that and you have won Interschools and are allowed to brag loudly. It becomes “the year we won Interschools”. That creates a date all of its own.

Western Proivince play a Currie Cup match against the Valke on Saturday. There will be far more people watching rugby in Faure Street.

Both teams are strong this year. On Rugby 365’s Top 20, Paarl Gim are equial top with Grey Bloem, Paarl Boys’ High fourth. The Gimmies have the better record.

The referee for the match is JC Fortuin who was also the referee in 2005.
