NTSONKOTHA SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL

School Profile

Ntsonkotha School play an FNB Classic Clashes match against Zweliyandila on Saturday, both rural schools in impoverished areas.

Newlands Location is a rural village beyond Mdantsane, the sprawling township where roughly half of the population of East London lives. That means that Newlands is a poor area where unemployment is the norm.

Ntsonkotha School, founded in 1994, is a poor school, but, as is the case of rural schools of its kind in the Eastern Cape, rugby plays an important role.

The school, whose name means "something deeper" has roughly 550 pupils with three rugby teams. The coach of the side is Mososo Mfuko.

The schools main rivals are Ngwenyathi Senior Secondary. It has played Zweliyandila three times in FNB Classic Clashes. Each side has won once and one has been drawn.

The school has done particularly well in Border's Rural Competitions – champions in 2000 and 2002 and runners-up in 2001.

The star old boy is Tiger Mangweni who has played fullback for the Border Bulldogs 37 times, a particularly exciting player.
