Lots of eyes were on the grand occasion in Durban on Saturday afternoon but here and there throughout the land there were all sorts of intense battles on the playing fields of South Africa.
There was a big one when Grey Bloem and Affies met and again its was another triumph – another big win for Grey.
There was a huge surprise North of the Vaal when Bastion accounted fopr Monnas – the second school to beat the powerful Krugersdorp side this year.
For Westville, playing at School in mid-morning, it was a great win against their Durban rivals.
In Uitenhage there was a keen derby at Die Brandwag where Daniel Pienaar won for the third year in a row. They were expected to win but for much of the match the home side led.
The Western Cape was sopping wet as the winter rains came pouring down with lightning and thunder accompaniment.
Paarl Boys upset the Paul Roos apple cart in Paarl, Oudtshoorn continued their good form when they beat Oakdale and promising Tygerberg beat Bishops who are often not much cop in the rain, one side of the Hottentots Holland Mountains played the other side and Moorreesburg played Malmesbury in a Swartland derby. Paarl Gim went across to George and had a good win over the Kwaggas.
