Schools Results - 26 May
The drawn result between SACS and Bishops, the two schools who have been playing the game longest in South Africa was probably a fair reflection in a great match – to SACS as good as a win in the light of big defeats in recent years.
There was a shock for Eldoraigne but Monnas have come back strongly.
The Middelburg derby was a huge one with massive crowds that started arriving at seven in the morning. The players in every match played themselves to a standstill.
Selborne are continuing good form as do Michaelhouse, Tygerberg and Westville.
There was a derby in the Swartland when Porterville met Piketberg and a neighbourly encounter in Kloof ended with an old-fashioned score. Schoonspruit’s backs were brilliant in the Malmesbury derby.
Two matches were stopped eaerly, one because of kindness, the other because of nastiness.
In South Western Districts schools matches are stopped when the score reaches 50, which is why the match between Oakdale of Riversdale and the Mossel Bay combination called Seavunda was stopped early. (This did not seem to apply when Outeniqua had their big win over Punt.)
In Ermelo the third team match between the Erries and Standerton was stopped early because of fighting. The Erries won the first team match and so won the Michelin Troiphy for Medium Schools.
