Selborne profit in Queenstown

Queen’s were unable to prevent the visitors from making it two in a row, when they succumbed to a stronger, more physical Selborne outfit, losing 30-3 on the Rec last Saturday afternoon.

Although they held their own in the scrums, they were unable to match the fire power of the Selborne forwards, both in the line-outs and also the tight loose. The Selborne loose trio also proved to be a handful for the Queenians, and were instrumental in securing a number of vital turn-overs at the breakdown.

Much of the Queen’s ball was also on the back foot, making it difficult for the backline to find their rhythm and their forward momentum suffered as a result.

While the absence of four of the regular Queen’s forwards was noticeable, there can be little doubt that the new incumbents will grow in confidence for the remaining two games of the season.

Selborne enjoyed a substantial possession advantage for much of the game, while Queen’s tried their best to compete with the ball they had. A number of well judged kicks from Lionel Cronje eased the pressure for Queen’s. To their credit, the Queenians put in a number of courageous tackles restricting Selborne to a narrow 10-3 lead at the break.

Selborne went on to score four well worked tries in the second half and deserved their 30 – 3 victory in the end.
